Cash App is a popular US-based financial services platform operated by Block, a fintech company building a global financial system. It lets users send or receive electronic money, make payments, split bills with friends, and invest in stocks or crypto.
While the platform doesn’t support international money transfers, some workarounds may exist. This article explores Cash App’s features, supported countries, and whether international transfers are possible.
It will also explore Cash App alternatives that may be more suitable for sending money abroad.
Cash App is available in the United States only. To access and create a Cash App account, you must be physically within the U.S. and be an eligible U.S. resident. Often, users are required to verify their Cash App1 accounts by providing a government-issued ID, documents that support income sources, and a Social Security number.
Aside from the United States, Cash App used to be available in the United Kingdom, too. However, Cash App UK ceased operations in September 20242,3 after the company opted to deprioritize global expansion and focus instead on operations in the United States alone.
The app also restricts access from geographical regions outside the United States. This means you can’t download and use Cash App in Canada, Mexico, Germany, Nigeria, India, South Africa, France, Australia, or any other country.
If you already have a Cash App account, you may request a Cash App Card—a prepaid card you can use for international transactions in supported countries. The card, which is provided by Sutton Bank4, allows you to pay for purchases and withdraw from ATMs in select countries.
Note, however, that these international transactions are often charged a 3% international use fee5. Plus, you can also get a Cash App Card if you have an eligible Cash App account — which you can only create if you are a U.S. resident.
Here’s a list of countries supported by Cash App, as well as the features available in each:
Supported countries | Unsupported countries | |
---|---|---|
Full access |
Card-only access |
No access |
All features of Cash App are available in only one country. You can send or receive money, deposit or withdraw funds, pay for purchases, invest in stocks, use the Cash App Card, and enjoy everything Cash App has to offer if you are in this country:
|
You may use the Cash App Card to pay international merchants that accept Visa debit cards, online or in-store. You may also use the debit card to withdraw funds from some ATMs.

You cannot use Cash App and the Cash App Card in the following countries:
|
So, is Cash App available in the UK / Mexico / Canada / Germany / Europe? Yes, but only through a Cash App card. Also, the only thing you can do with the Cash App card in those countries is to pay at stores where Visa is accepted and to withdraw funds from ATMs that accept the card.
Cash App is designed for local use only, with each account tied to a U.S. mobile phone number. The company also relies on the local banking system, which means they do not use IBANs or SWIFT codes.
However, you can send money abroad with BOSS Money — a money transfer app that allows you to send funds from the United States to over 60 countries, including Mexico, the Philippines, El Salvador, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom.
The app also supports transfers to countries that are unsupported by Cash App, including Bangladesh, Congo, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
Running a money app in another country is more complicated than it seems. It’s not just about translating the app or opening it to new users.
Countries have their rules about who can own and operate a money service. To move money legally, Cash App needs a license in each country. These licenses are usually given by the central bank or financial regulator in that country and can take months or years to process. Sometimes, the application process itself is very expensive.
Each country has its own banking rules. In the US, for instance, Cash App works with U.S. bank accounts and uses verification elements like routing numbers and SSNs. When it was still available in the UK, Cash App worked only with UK bank accounts and UK phone numbers.
Every country has laws to fight fraud, terrorism, and money laundering. Some of these are KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) laws. Any entity engaged in financial services must check users’ IDs, track suspicious payments, and report certain activities to the government.
Cash App has to follow these rules carefully to maintain compliance and avoid legal repercussions. But these rules change from country to country, and can be difficult to comply with.
In some countries, people already use other money apps every day. For example, people in India prefer using Paytm or PhonePe; those in Kenya often opt for M-PESA, and those in Brazil might use Pix.
Cash App is owned by Block, Inc., a large U.S. company. Their current focus is on growing inside the US.
They make most of their profit from Bitcoin trading, investing, and Cash Card usage — which work best in stable, wealthy markets. Going global may be part of their long-term plan, but for now, they are staying in the markets they know best.
If you want to send money to another country, BOSS Money is one of the best and easiest to use. Just download the app to send money to family and friends abroad.
BOSS Money supports dozens of countries and has thousands of agent locations where recipients can conveniently get the funds. If the receiver cannot pick up the cash at a partner location, you may also send money through bank deposit, direct debit, mobile wallet top-up, or home delivery.
What’s great about BOSS Money is that both sender and recipient can access the services even if they do not have any bank accounts.
To send international money transfers, just follow these steps:
Your recipient just needs one valid ID and the tracking number to claim the transfer at the agent location nearest them.
If you're outside the United States, Cash App won’t be much help. The app and its services are only available within the U.S. You may be able to work around the restrictions using a VPN, but this doesn’t always guarantee access to Cash App services.
You might be able to use the Cash App debit card to pay for purchases or withdraw money from ATMs abroad. However, these transactions often incur fees, including a 3% foreign transaction charge.
In short, it’s best to use Cash App for domestic transfers only.
For international transfers, there are apps like BOSS Money that are designed to support multiple countries, letting users send money instantly without huge transfer fees and maximize promos that let them save even more on each transfer.
